Alert Level 2 Information
12 August 2020

Community Message - sent 17 August 2020

You will be aware that the Bay of Plenty remains in Alert Level 2 along with the rest of NZ, except for Auckland which is in Alert Level 3.

This means that Papamoa College will continue to operate within the Alert Level 2 conditions that we instituted last week.

Practicing great hygiene is the most drucial aspect for us all on campus at the moment - washing hands, sneezing/coughing into a tissue or elbow, staying away if sick.

We also have a contact tracing register that visitors to campus must sign, as well as a QR Code that can be scanned.

The maximum gathering sixe remains at 100x people and therefore some of the school functions and events may be affected. We will keep you informed of any changes and modifications.

The best source of information regarding Alert Level 2 conditions is on the Government COVID19 website.

Should you have any questions please feel free to contact us.

The recent announcement by the Prime Minister for the Auckland region to quickly move into Alert Level 3 and for the rest of NZ to move into Alert Level 2, has no doubt been the topic of discussion for you, your family/whanau, and those who you associate with.

Papamoa College has successfully transitioned into Alert Level 2 and has adopted the same measures to the last time we were operating in Alert Level 2. This includes:

Clear procedures for visitors to campus to follow. The school has a QR code for those of you who have downloaded the COVID App on their mobile phone. Keeping a contact tracing register for all visitors to campus. Promoting great hygiene practices for everyone on campus:

  • Washing hands regularly
  • Sneezing/coughing into a tissue or elbow
  • Staying away from school if anyone is sick
  • Symptomatic people to get tested for covid19 as soon as possible

Maintaning physical distancing on campus where practical.

There will undoubtedly be an impact on certain school activities such as sports and performing arts events etc, that may have large gatherings of people. Currently under Alert Level 2 the maximum number allowable for a gathering is 100x people - this may change in the near future. We will notify you regarding specific events and maximum gathering sizes when they occur. The PC Sports Facebook page will also have the latest updates.

During Level 2 the buses have returned to physical distancing, meaning a limited number of students will be able to use the bus. If possible please have your student find other transportation to school. If the bus company is able to put on extra bus runs we will inform the students through the school notices.

Alert Level 3
It would be advisable for you and your family/whanau to prepare for the possibility that we might have to move to Alert Level 3 with very short notice. Already at school we are preparing for Learning from Home should it be necessary.

Digital Devices for Learning at Home
This is a timely reminder for those of you who are considering purchasing a digital device for your child's learning. Learning from Home (and also at school) relies heavily on the use of a digital device. The Papamoa College website outlines the learning benefits for using a personal digital device and the necessary specs. There is also information that provides discounted purchasing options. These deals are well worth looking at.

The school will continue to follow the advice of Health authorities and the Ministry of Education throughout this time.

We will keep you informed of relevant information and updates as we are aware of them.
